Top Tips for Installing a MRCOOL Ductless Mini Split System

Installing a MRCOOL Ductless Mini Split

Installing a MRCOOL DIY Ductless Mini Split is already a very simple process. To make sure your installation goes extra smoothe, we asked the members of our team for their top tips for installing a DIY mini split. We took the best answers and compiled them in this short list for you.

Top 5 Tips for Installing a MRCOOL Ductless Mini Split

1. Get a Helper

While you can definitely get away with installing a ductless mini split by yourself, we definitely recommend you get a helper or two to give you a hand. For the indoor unit especially, you will want to make sure you have someone helping you level the mounting bracket and attaching the unit to the mount.

2. Make Things Equidistant

To maximize cooling efficiency in all your rooms, you will definitely want to consider how you position your mini split system. While adhering to the positioning requirements in the installation manual, you should also think about the distance between the condenser and the indoor air handlers, and make them as equidistant as possible.

In a 4-zone mini split system, for example, you should opt for distances of 25, 23, 28, and 27 feet between your indoor units and the condenser, compared to distances of 16, 34, 49, and 10 feet. This will make sure that all your rooms are getting cooled at the same rate.

3. Check for Leaks

When connecting the indoor and outdoor parts of your mini split system, you should always check for leaks. Especially after connecting the Quick Connect Line Sets, you should use a spray bottle with soapy water on all the connection points to ensure you have no air bubbles. If you do find any leaks, stop the installation and contact your MRCOOL dealer to get a replacement. If you're not sure how to check for leaks, you can find more information in this video.

4. Do Not Play the Electrician

A MRCOOL Ductless Mini Split is not like a microwave where you can just plug it into an outlet. These systems are usually connected to a disconnect box, via a whip, which then needs to be wired to the main breaker box of your home. Unless you are a licensed professional or have experience running these kinds of power extensions, then do not attempt this part of the installation. Rather than playing electrician, call a professional and have them do it for you.

5. Activate the Warranty

MRCOOL offers the best warranty in the HVAC industry. Make sure you take advantage of it by registering your unit
