Current MRCOOL DIY ceiling cassette sizes
| Nominal size | Current 5th Gen model family |
|---|---|
| 6,000 BTU | DIY 5th Gen OuttaSight ceiling cassette |
| 9,000 BTU | DIY 5th Gen OuttaSight ceiling cassette |
| 12,000 BTU | DIY 5th Gen OuttaSight ceiling cassette |

That is an important update from the older 4th Generation lineup, which is why older articles and videos may show a different size range.
Why choose a ceiling cassette?
A one-way cassette can be a good fit when wall space is limited or when you want a cleaner, more integrated look. The cassette installs in the ceiling and directs conditioned air into the room without occupying the wall area used by a conventional mini-split head.
MRCOOL’s 5th Gen OuttaSight cassettes are designed to fit between common 16-inch-on-center ceiling framing in compatible installations. Actual framing, service access, drain routing, line-set routing, and clearances still need to be checked before cutting the ceiling opening.
Can you use a cassette with any MRCOOL condenser?
No. A matching brand name does not automatically make two components compatible. The cassette, condenser, line set, controls, and system configuration must be an approved combination for the generation and series you are purchasing.
This is especially important when comparing older 4th Generation R-410A equipment with current 5th Generation R-454B equipment. Do not mix generations unless MRCOOL documentation specifically identifies the combination as compatible.
Ceiling height and placement
Ceiling height by itself does not determine whether a cassette will work. You also need enough framing depth above the finished ceiling, access for installation and service, a workable condensate-drain route, and the required clearances around the discharge area.
For low ceilings, verify the exact installation-manual clearance for the cassette you are considering rather than relying on a generic rule of thumb.
Single-zone and multi-zone use
Compatible ceiling cassettes can be used in approved DIY 5th Gen configurations, including certain multi-zone systems. For multi-zone projects, size each room separately and then verify the full indoor-unit combination against the selected outdoor unit.
